All healthy skin is susceptible to bouts of acne when pores become blocked. Androgen hormones stimulate excess oil production and result in tiny particles becoming trapped in the skin. Often this leads to inflammation and more susceptibility to other bacteria, and acne.

Types of acne are:

Blackheads: A blackhead occurs when a widened hair follicle fills with skin debris or oil. It blackens because of exposure to air and has oxidised.

Whiteheads: Whiteheads, similar to blackheads, are closed follicles filled with the same oil and skin debris. Because there is only a miniscule opening, air cannot reach the follicle for oxidisation to occur.

Papules: Rounded bumps that rise from the skin and are not filled with pus. Often sore to touch, papules represent a deep blockage below the skin’s surface.

Pustules: The once papule becomes hard, infected and contains pus.

Cystic Acne: A deeper skin acne which presents on the skin’s surface as red, pus-filled bumps or cysts. Cystic acne typically results in high levels of scarring. Touching the cyst should be avoided.

Acne can also be graded from 1 to 4, with Grade 1 being the mildest form of blackheads and papules, to Grade 4, which is severe inflammation, blackheads, pustules and papules and high risk of scarring.

If you have deep acne scarring where scar tissue has formed, laser is more suitable. Laser works by stimulating collagen production; smooths over acne scars and improves your overall skin texture. Laser can also treat active acne and blackheads.

IPL treatments work with the superficial layers of skin, where light is absorbed and helps to kill acne bacteria. If you suffer chest and back acne, IPL is likely to be recommended as the more effective way to combat your condition.

The benefits of laser treatment and IPL are the walk-in-walk-out ability to resume your daily activities with no concern for downtime. On occasion you may experience a mild-like sunburn that typically reduces in 24 hours.

It is important to consult with experienced, friendly professionals like our Precision Laser Therapy team in Sydney, as incorrect procedures can leave you with further scarring. With sessions for Laser and IPL acne treatment starting at $150, our package deals can return your self-esteem and boost your confidence safely and efficiently in an affordable way.
